I often need to get out at a moments notice and go and blow the cobwebs away. Over the next few weeks I will be adding some of my favourite rides around East Anglia, and perhaps beyond...

Southwold - Yoxford - Earl Soham - Woodbridge - Snape - Westleton - Southwold

Rating: 3/5

Distance: 66 miles

Time: 1.5 to 2 hours

Notes: An enjoyable route with a good mixture of fast sweeping stretches and slower roads through quiet villages. The A1120 is a great road for some swift riding, combining long roman road straights and a few real tight 's' bends. But care must be taken as there can be the odd nasty surprise lurking around a blind corner or junction. Plenty of farm/agricultural traffic about, and some completely oblivious Sunday drivers to keep you on your toes. It slows up through the B1079 somewhat, but once you leave Woodbridge, you can get going again through Rendlesham - just keep an eye open for the low-flying UFO's...

Southwold - Halesworth - Laxfield - Dennington - Yoxford - Southwold

Rating: 3.5/5

Distance: 40 miles

Time: 1 hour

Notes: Another very enjoyable ride that provides some great rural Suffolk landscapes and a magnificent country estate at Heveningham. The road doesn't really open up until the B1116 between Laxfield and Dennington, so care must be taken around the tight blind corners. Surface quality can be a bit hairy in places too, so expect some bumps here and there. Ideal for a quick ride if time is short or it's at the end of the day.
